PBIS Rewards
PBIS at Jamestown
Positive Choices. Strong Character. One Jamestown.
At Jamestown Elementary, we believe behavior is something we teach, practice, and strengthen, just like reading, math, science, or Spanish.
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. PBIS helps every Jayhawk understand what successful behavior looks like throughout our school.
Our goal is simple: help students make positive choices, build strong character, keep everyone safe, and protect learning.
What Does It Mean to Be a Jamestown Jayhawk?
Every Jayhawk is expected to practice our six Character Pillars:
Trustworthiness
Be honest, dependable, and someone others can trust.
Respect
Treat people, property, learning, and differences with dignity.
Responsibility
Own your choices, complete your responsibilities, and follow through.
Fairness
Treat others fairly and help everyone have an opportunity to succeed.
Caring
Show kindness, patience, empathy, and concern for others.
Citizenship
Make choices that help our classroom, school, and community become better.
Catch a Jayhawk Doing Something GREAT!
Positive choices matter at Jamestown!
Students may be recognized through:
⭐ PBIS points
⭐ Positive praise and shout-outs
⭐ Special privileges
⭐ Classroom celebrations
⭐ Leadership opportunities
⭐ PBIS Store opportunities
⭐ Special events and recognition
⭐ Positive communication home
You do not have to be perfect to be recognized. Growth, effort, improvement, kindness, responsibility, and making a better choice all matter.
Two Big Expectations Every Jayhawk Must Remember
Protect Learning
Every student has the right to learn.
Be ready to learn, follow directions, participate, and avoid behaviors that repeatedly interrupt teaching or another student's opportunity to learn.
Keep Hands, Feet, and Objects to Yourself
We keep one another safe.
Hitting, kicking, pushing, fighting, or unsafe physical contact is not how Jayhawks solve problems.
If there is a problem:
Stop. Create space. Walk away when you can. Find an adult. Ask for help.
Getting even usually turns one problem into two. Getting help is the stronger choice.
What Happens When I Make a Mistake?
Everybody makes mistakes.
PBIS does not mean there are no consequences. It means we want students to learn from mistakes instead of simply repeating them.
Depending on what happened, an adult may:
• Remind or reteach the expectation
• Give you time to reset and regulate
• Help you think about a better choice
• Ask you to repair harm when appropriate
• Contact your family
• Provide additional support
• Refer a serious or repeated concern to administration
Our goal is always to help you reset, repair, learn, and return to success.
Need a Reset? Ask for Help.
Sometimes we become frustrated, angry, worried, overwhelmed, or simply need a moment to regroup.
That is why Jamestown classrooms have a Calm Corner or Calm Zone.
Using a Calm Corner is not a punishment. It is a tool to help you regulate yourself, make a plan, and return to learning.
You can also ask a trusted adult for help.
Your Choices Build Our School
PBIS is bigger than earning points or visiting the PBIS Store.
It is about becoming the kind of person who can make good choices even when nobody is offering a reward.
Every time you show respect, solve a problem peacefully, help someone, take responsibility, tell the truth, work through something difficult, or make a better choice than you made yesterday, you are helping build the kind of Jamestown we want for everyone.
Be safe. Be respectful. Be responsible. Be caring. Be ready to learn.
One Team. One Mission. Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day.
💙💛 We are Jayhawks. We rise together.
