Philosophy of Education

I believe that everyone has the ability to learn and that we each have our own individual ways of learning.  These learning styles may differ from one subject area to another.  I also believe that by having a relationship and a human connection to students that educators can play a key role.  I know that I put forth more effort and therefore learned more, as a student, when I felt like my teacher had a positive belief in me and my abilities.  So, the social-emotional aspects of learning are key in my philosophy.  Knowing the personal styles and preferences of students is inherent in that belief.  I was not a typical learner and I seek to bring my own insights and sensitivities to the students and families I am privileged to work with.  I believe with my educational and professional experience both in Social Work and School Psychology gives me a very unique perspective and skill set in addressing the changing needs of families and students in our ever changing world.

 

Personal Statement

I have been a School Psychologist at Jamestown Elementary since 20007.  In addition to working at Jamestown Elementary I have also worked at Larimore Elementary, Hazelwood East High School and at the Hazelwood Central Early Childhood Center.  As a Social Worker I have worked with infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric adults in various environments ranging from independent practice, to adoption, outpatient, residential treatment, and hospital settings.  I truly enjoy helping individuals achieve their highest goals and feel privileged in seeing people learn about themselves, and make positive changes in their lives and perspectives.  I am married.  My husband is a Mechanical Engineer.  We live in North County with our two cats.  We enjoy the outdoors, sports and movies.
